AI Governance Academy  ·  For banks · insurers · MDAs · telecoms · enterprise  ·  ISO/IEC 42001 · NIST AI RMF · EU AI Act · the Data Protection Act 2019
AI Governance Academy · Kenya · Corporate & Professional Training

Your regulators have already moved on AI. Has your team?

The Central Bank of Kenya already examines banks and payment providers on board-level accountability for technology risk. The Data Protection Act, 2019 makes registration with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner mandatory for controllers and processors, and its principles reach AI-assisted processing of personal data. Buyers in the EU, UK and US now ask Kenyan suppliers for AI governance evidence. Kenya's National AI Strategy points to statutory duties ahead. The AI Governance Academy trains the compliance, risk, audit, and technology teams who must answer for all of it — built on ISO/IEC 42001, the NIST AI Risk Management Framework, the EU AI Act, and Kenya’s Data Protection Act 2019.

Four obligations are landing on Kenyan organisations at once.

Each one asks the same question: can your people demonstrate that the AI your organisation uses is governed? Trained staff are the evidence.

🏦

The Central Bank of Kenya's expectations

CBK already holds bank and payment-provider boards accountable for technology and cyber risk, and licenses digital credit providers directly. As those institutions put AI into credit scoring, fraud detection and collections, examiners ask the same questions of the models: who is accountable, and can you explain the decision to the customer it affected?

§

Data Protection Act, 2019

Controllers and processors must register with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner and keep that registration current. The Act's principles — lawful basis, purpose limitation, data minimisation, accuracy and accountability — apply in full when the processing is done by, or with, an AI system, and the ODPC has been enforcing them.

🗂

What your buyers now ask for

Kenyan organisations selling into the EU, the UK and the US are increasingly asked for AI governance evidence during procurement: a model inventory, named owners, documented risk assessment, ISO/IEC 42001 readiness. The EU AI Act reaches suppliers whose systems touch the EU market wherever they sit. This is the obligation that arrives first, through a contract rather than a regulator.

⚖

Kenya's National AI Strategy

Kenya's National AI Strategy, led by the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy and sitting under the AU Continental AI Strategy, points one way. Statutory duties for organisations deploying AI are a question of when, not if. The teams trained now will meet the law standing up.
